ALBERTA INCENTIVES
Solar Club
Buy Low, Sell High! Solar Club allows Albertans to sell electricity at high rates during months of over-production while paying low rates during months of under-production. Sell your excess power at 30 cents per kWh in summer and pay less than 11 cents per kWh in the winter.
Solar Offset
Get paid for your carbon credits! Solar Offset is a platform that allows the owners of small-scale solar and wind energy systems to get paid for the greenhouse gas emission reductions they are making.
Clean Energy Improvement Program
CEIP offers financing to residential property owners to help with the upfront costs of energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. CEIP offers homeowners:
- Financing for up to 100% of eligible project costs.
- Competitive interest rates.
- Long repayment terms.
- The option to repay in full at any time without penalty.
- Rebate incentives toward total project costs, in many jurisdictions.
- Repayment collected through your property tax bill.

Banff Solar Incentive Program
The Town of Banff Solar PV Program is a post-install rebate program, with funding based on the size of solar system installed. Eligible participants install a solar PV system on their home or business, and then receive a financial rebate from the Town, based on the size of the solar system installed. The Town provides eligible participants with a rebate of $750/kilowatt (kW) of solar capacity installed, to a maximum of 20 kW.
Applicants are encouraged to contact the Town for a preliminary review of their project prior to submitting a Development Permit application.
Medicine Hat SMART Program
New Homes Incentive program – The New Homes Incentive Program is designed to encourage the construction of more energy efficient homes and includes the benefits of solar PV installations. An EnerGuide rating, determined by an energy advisor, is required. HAT Smart will rebate up to $10,000 based on the level of energy savings achieved beyond a ‘typical new home’ – that is one built to the current energy code.
All gigajoule savings contributed through on-site renewable energy will be included when determining the rebate amount.
Existing Homes – Eligible recipients may receive a rebate up to $1000 for Solar installation. Program fully subscribed for 2024, 2025 details TBD.
Edmonton Change Homes for Climate Solar Program
The City is offering Edmonton multi-unit residential property owners $0.50/watt towards the cost of the system. Properties must have four or more permitted units or dwellings and are eligible for rebates based on the size of their system to a maximum of $4,000 per dwelling and a maximum of $100,000 total rebate per property owner per calendar year. Applications open July 2, 2024, and will be administered on a first-come, first-serve basis while funds remain available. Eligible systems must be installed with documentation submitted by December 16, 2024.
BRITISH COLUMBIA INCENTIVES
BC HYDRO REBATES – NOW AVAILABLE!
BC Hydro is making rebates available through a simple process of application and document submission through their website; these are available now for both new builds and existing buildings.
Residential:
- Up to $5000 for Solar Installation
- No Energy Audit Required
- Rebates paid within 60 days of document submission
- Non-Primary Residences are eligible
- First-come limited time opportunity
Commercial:
- Up to $25,000 for Solar Installation
Indigenous Communities and Social Housing:
- Up to $75,000 for Solar Installation
